Mono printing and Brusho

With the typography design and created, I then decided to create these adverts out of mixed media and the use of different techniques. The techniques that I used was brusho and mono print.

The materials for the mono print I used were; thick printing inks, a sheet of rough calico, an image to work with, ink roller, tracing paper and a pencil or pen to draw out the design.
The materials I used for the brusho were; thin and bright watercolour powder, water in a spray bottle and various types of paper.
For the mono printing, the first thing I did was collect all the material that was needed complete this piece of work that I was happy with and to later create a background to mix my typography design with.
The next thing I did was create my design on a piece of tracing paper, but I had to remember that what I would have drawn would be in reverse if I used any words, but as the tracing paper is a bit transparent so it was easy to see the other side. so that solved the issue.
Then I got a sheet of thick smooth glass or a smooth surface, roller and printing ink. I put a small amount of printing ink on to the flat smooth surface and rolled it out until it made a sticky tacky sound.
The next thing I did was chose the piece of calico to work with and carefully placed the calico on to the ink trying not to put any unwanted marks over it.
Then I also carefully placed the tracing paper over it too and taped it down so it would not move, then redraw the image to transfer the ink on to the calico trying not the apply any unwanted pressure to add unwanted marks.
With that done I carefully removed the tracing paper and calico from the ink and was left with the a drawn like image on the calico.

This was quite successful as I did not put any unwanted marks on the calico.

For the brusho, the first thing I did was collect all the material that was needed complete this piece of work that I was happy with and to later create a background to mix my typography design with.

The next thing I did was chose different types and styles of paper to work with, I selected the colours I wanted to use and started sprinkling them on to the page.
Then I sprayed the page with water in a spay bottle, so all the colours would spread and blend together.
The last thing to do is let I dry.
This was quite successful easy but quite messy to create and I really like this style, the only problem I came across is that if u put to much water on the page it would mess every thing up. I over came this by using a sheet of paper to press over the top to create a new design.

The next thing I did was scan the images in to the computer using and A3 scanner, scanning them I better than a photograph as they come out brighter and u don't have to edit it much.

When it was scanned in the computer I imported it in to photoshop so I could change and improve them. I added the lettering that I created  sometimes only using the outlines.
With the two mono prints I used the letters with them filled in and with detail. I did one in warm colours and did the letters in a rusted style, too represent an aged look and added a shadow to make them stand out against the picture. Then the second one I did it in cold colour as I wanted to see what would happen if I inverted the picture, so it changed the black line to white and the creamy-brown to a dark blue, so I did the letters in the same colour style, I also gave the letters a shadow to make them stand out.
With the three brusho ones I only used the outlines changing the colours from a light green and a white. Only one of the outlined ones I filled in with one base colour  of an olive green.

Typography

This my design for typography, I used the word identity. The first time I created the writing it didn't go so well as the 'N' and the 'Y' were too small which didn't look right. So I decided to recreated this one by changing small parts and then imported it into photoshop so I could darken the lines.

The first thing I did was get some inspiration, which I got mine from a game and horror genre. Then I got some graph paper so that I could use the squares in case I had to draw them again, drawing out some of  the letters was a bit tricky as I had to try and get them all the same size and shape to match each other so they fit together in the same word like a puzzle.
when I was happy with way each letter looked I went over them with a thin, black pen to make the lines easer to see when I scanned it into the computer, to edit or change the letters.

When I had imported it into photoshop and redid the out lines I decided to add some colour and detail on a separate layer, I tried to make the part of the letters look like a blade of a knife a silver colour with a lighter bit for the sharp edge, then the next ting I did was add two white shine of light to make it look new and smooth but also added some shade where it needed to be.
The with the other part I coloured in with a dark grey to show where the handle would be, when that was done I added a darker shade of grey to give it some shade and detail.

It was quite successful and I really like how it has turned out, the colours and shading worked well as it looks like it is coming off or on top of the orange page.
to improve this piece I would try to add a shadow to the letters to make them stand out more, and see what other textures or colours I could use to get a different message, and then try to see what would happen if I could use different media, like paints, inks, different backgrounds, watercolours, fabrics and pens or pencils.
